Battle Stats and Builds

How the Combat Formula Works
Two separate ratios control every fight:
| Your Stat | vs Opponent's Stat | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Dexterity | Your chance to hit |
| Strength | (base) | Your damage output |
| Defense | Strength | Damage reduction you receive |
| Dexterity | Speed | Your dodge chance (opponent's hit rate) |
So Speed beats Dex (you hit more), and Defense reduces Strength damage (you take less). Both pairs are direct matchups.
Theoretically Optimal Stat Ratio (Vladar's Maths)
Against a perfectly balanced opponent with equal total stats:
| Stat | Optimal % |
|---|---|
| Dexterity | 32% |
| Speed | 28% |
| Strength | 22% |
| Defense | 18% |
Advantage over perfectly balanced opponent: only ~3.6%. The difference is small. Balance is far more important than exact ratios.
This is a theoretical exercise. Vladar's own disclaimer: "This probably is NOT the best real world stat build."
What Actually Matters More
- Total stat number beats perfect ratios. A player with 500M total balanced stats beats a player with 200M "optimally" allocated stats.
- Balance is king (Chedburn himself said this). Whoring any one stat past ~30-35% actually makes you weaker because your opponent hits you more or your damage drops.
- High accuracy weapons compensate for low Speed. If you use a rifle with 80+ accuracy, you can get away with less Speed.
- Dex whoring is specifically bad. Past 35% dex, your damage drops harder than the hit reduction helps.
The Two Practical Builds
Balanced Build (recommended for most players)
Roughly equal investment across all four stats. Slight lean toward Dex > Speed > Str > Def. Easiest to sustain and hardest to counter.
Dex Whore
Dump almost everything into Dex (60-70%). Almost impossible to hit. BUT: when opponents DO hit you, they hit much harder (because your Def is garbage). Extremely vulnerable to any high-Str opponent. A counter-meta strategy that gets demolished by balanced high-stat players.
Def Whore
Heavy Defense investment. Reduces damage taken but you hit much less due to low Str/Spd. Leads to stalemates against average players, but loses badly to high-total-stat opponents. No longer viable at high levels.
Stat Enhancers (Late Game)
If you ever reach 1B+ in each stat and use Stat Enhancers: - Dumping all enhancers into ONE stat (e.g. Defense) creates wildly asymmetric totals (~155B total) - Spreading evenly gives only ~14B total from same number of enhancers - Late-game optimal is to pick ONE stat to enhance, not spread
This is end game content, irrelevant until you have $1B+ in each stat.
chuje's Specific Situation
From API data: Str 335k, Def 231k, Spd 118k, Dex 54k. Total ~738k. - Dex is only 7.3% of total (should be ~28-32%) - Speed is 16% (should be ~28%) - Str is 45% (way too high)
You are getting hit extremely easily right now. Everyone with even moderate Speed can land near-100% hit rate against your 54k Dex. Fix this by dumping ALL gym energy into Dex and then Speed until they reach at least 15-20% each of total. Stop training Str completely until balanced.
